Best Pick-up spots in NYC! (And not just bars!!)As a NYC veteran, I’ve either been single or had exposure to single friends for a long time.  Some people I know have met in strange ways- on the subway, in a bookstore, etc. Personally, I have rarely met people in those scenarios. It seems that on those occasions, there is rarely enough time to really have a conversation with someone and often it’s very intimidating to approach someone in those circumstances. These are some of the best ways I’ve seen, to meet singles in my area. If you are outside NYC, many of them will likely relate to your area too!Summer/ Winter SharesSummer/Winter shares are a fantastic way to meet new people! At most share houses, you are often surrounded by many new people and you often spend your weekends with them… going to dinners, bars, or just hanging out at the house. The quality and age range of a share can really differ- some of them being much nicer than others. But, in most cases you almost always leave the summer or winter with new friends and/or romances! I met 3 very good friends of mine from a Bridgehampton share I did 3 years ago. One of them left with a serious boyfriend. In my opinion, it was worth every penny!  In the winter, Killington VT is a good option, and in the summer the Hamptons, Montauk, and/or Fire Island are all great.Play a Fun SportNYC young professionals can join casual sports games through ZogSports, or other organizations. They have fun activities like dodge ball (if you don’t mind getting pegged!), kickball, and they even have wine tastings. Many of the teams go for drinks after games and ZogSports always has events and parties.Add some adventure!Organizations, such as Outdoor Bound, have fun adventurous day trips in or near NYC. Some of them include White Water Rafting, Outdoor Photography trips, and hiking.Take a Yoga ClassMore and more men (especially serious athletes, such as triathletes, runners, etc.) are starting to take yoga classes. This is a great way to meet someone because often you will see them over and over.If you must go to a bar…If you want to meet someone at a bar, try going somewhere laid back, such as a beer garden, and don’t go too late when people are already drunk! You want to make your connection early so people have time to remember you. The Standard is probably the best beer garden pick-up spot.Online DatingI am actually a big fan of online dating. You have to learn how to weed out the players, weirdos, etc., but if you can, I think it’s the wave of the future for dating. Many of my friends have met their significant others online.

See my entry for the Sears Chef Challenge!

I was really nervous because I had less than a day to prepare… How do you think I did?

Two of the best songs I’ve heard in a long time is Mumford and Sons, Little Lion Man and The Cave. They are played all over Scotland and are totally amazing! I really love this band…

I am a fun, energetic and full of life New Yorker who loves cooking, dining, travelling and great music. I was born in NYC and have lived here the last 7 years. I went to school for Hotel and Restaurant Management (Cornell University) where I learned about cooking, wines, and restaurants, among other things. I have a cozy, wonderful life in NYC, working hard and also finding time to make great dinners, find gourmet shopping, and visiting the best dining spots in NYC. I absolutely can’t live without a double espresso in the morning, my wonderful boyfriend, and great food.
